Water World
To avoid the afternoon storms typical of Florida this time of year, we got another early start. Today’s goal was 37 miles away, which doesn’t seem like much until you consider that we are traveling at 8 miles per hour. So that makes it about a five hour trip after we slow down for the manatee areas.
Upon leaving Boca Grande we found ourselves in Pine Island Sound. The currents are different than normal, and the water can apparently get rough. Anyways, there was lots of water and we had it mostly to ourselves.
There were lots of dolphins and porpoises.
Do you know how to tell the difference between a dolphin and a porpoise? Me either.
We wandered our way around the various islands until we entered the Caloosahatchee river. At this point the waterway became much more congested with boat traffic.
Eventually we arrived at our destination, Ft. Myers. We checked in at the marina and then walked to the grocery store to get some essentials (Mt. Dew).
Downtown Ft. Myers is within easy walking distance from the Marina, so we took the opportunity to explore.
Ft. Myers offers a nice mix of restaurants and shopping, and is pedestrian friendly. We settled on a taco place.
