It was so good to leave. We felt so relieved to finally head back onto the ICW and put some miles between us and Charleston. It wasn’t the city that we wanted to get away from, it was the marina. Every minute of the day we were in constant motion as the wind would push waves into the marina and against the hull of our boat. And when it was time to sleep we would almost get comfortable and then the wake of a passing cargo ship would toss our little boat like a toy. We didn’t sleep much. So getting underway this morning was a welcome change.

The water was calm but the ICW is fairly shallow in this area and at low tide it can become interesting. We even saw an alligator.

Our destination today was only about 30 miles away from Charleston. In a small town called McClellanville we had a reservation at a tiny marina named Leland Oil. The name became obvious when we arrived and it was essentially a long fuel dock. We didn’t care because it was a protected dock with no motion.

Also, today was our first experience with rafting. Since we were tied to the fuel dock and it was pretty full, the dockmaster asked if a fishing boat could raft to us to get fuel. We talked to the fishermen about how they fish for grouper and snapper.
