Myrtle Beach, SC

We stayed at two marinas in the Myrtle Beach area. Although they were both along the ICW, they were very different. The first one was Osprey Marina, and the second one was Barefoot Marina. But first we have some photos from when we left Georgetown.

The terrain has definitely changed from even a few days ago. Instead of swamp and grass, we now see trees, and lots of them.

Osprey Marina was a quiet and secluded spot that was down a canal off the ICW. It was very popular and there were around six other boats moving around the marina when we arrived, so we decided to wait until morning to go to the fuel dock. But once the marina closed it was very quiet and peaceful. There were dozens of turtles around the marina that would swim right up to the boat as if they expected to be fed.

Our slip was tiny. It was barely a foot on either side of the boat. It is nice that we can fit in a small space. The people at Osprey were very friendly and the welcome bag had lots of goodies and treats. We would definitely recommend this stop.

In the morning we took on some fuel and then headed out again. It was the most pleasant day of travel we have had so far on this trip. The weather was perfect. We finally got a cool day after almost a month of heat. There was plenty to look at on this stretch, and the current was giving us a boost.

Barefoot Marina is on the north end of Myrtle Beach, and occupies an area along the ICW that is very popular with boaters because of the row of restaurants on the other side that provide free day dockage. We were docked on the outer face dock and we entertained ourselves by watching the boat police pull boats over for speeding in the no wake zone.

Barefoot Marina is another great stop that we really enjoyed. The marina staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the activity in this busy part of the ICW.
