Hurricane Florence
When we left Blue Sky safely docked in Portsmouth there were no hurricanes. Within a week there were three named storms in the Atlantic and it looked like Florence was going to do her best to clobber the lower Chesapeake. I was able to communicate with the dockmaster who was able to double the lines and make sure things were extra secure. I was feeling okay until the Navy moved the warships out of the Norfolk area.
As the week unfolded it became clear that Florence was headed somewhere south of Portsmouth, and possibly striking a direct hit on Wilmington, where we had been back in August.
This past week we watched the news as Florence caused all sorts of mayhem along the coastline of North Carolina. The cities and towns in the news were all places we had visited recently. New Bern in particular was hit hard. We especially enjoyed New Bern, We even considered returning to New Bern for the winter. Our friends in Blue Horizon had left their boat in New Bern for August and we are eagerly awaiting some news of its status.
We are happy to report that we have just now returned to Portsmouth and have confirmed that Blue Sky did not suffer any damage from the storm.
