Sylvan Beach

Sylvan Beach

This was a fairly short day of travel, but the weather was deteriorating with rain forecast for the afternoon. So we got an early start and were ready at the first lock exactly at 7am.  We had five locks to negotiate over 42 nautical miles.

This part of the canal really started to look more like a canal, with several stretches being straight and narrow. We passed several dredging crews as well as a clean up crew removing debris from the water.

We arrived at the free wall in Sylvan Beach with just enough time to tie up before it started to really rain. We stayed on the boat all afternoon as the rain continued through the night. During the night the wind picked up and we were happy to be tied to the wall. The next morning was clear, but the wind was still there and was causing some big waves on  Oneida Lake, so we decided to stay put for the day.

At some point during the day our friends from Green Eyes arrived, and we enjoyed talking to them until late in the evening.
