Hastings
Today we worked our way through a total of 10 locks and only progressed 22 nautical miles. Our first destination was to visit Ranny Falls at the top of lock 12. Lock 11 and 12 operate as a “flight” of two locks, so when you exit the first one you are entering the second one, which raises you even further.
The falls were viewable from a suspension bridge that was only a short walk from the tie-up at the top of lock 12. So we had a nice nature walk before returning to the boat and continuing our day.
The next destination was downtown Campbellford. Here we stopped at Old Mill Park so we could visit a bakery and grab some lunch. The bakery was so we could re-stock our supply of butter tarts.
When we returned to the boat the weather had turned a bit, so we had to deal with occasional rain showers and a bit of wind. Neither was too much trouble and we worked our way through several more locks until we were on a stretch of water that let us travel about 15 miles. The last lock of the day was at Hastings, and wee arrived very near to closing time. Fortunately the lock staff was awesome and they got us to the top of the lock before leaving for the day.
Dinner was a local place that served Pizza and Ice Cream.
