Orillia
The reason we stopped where we did was mainly because we did not want to cross Lake Simcoe until morning. So this morning we transited the final two locks on the east side of the lake and then entered the lake for the 12 mile trip up to Orillia.
We had a reservation for a couple of nights at the Port of Orillia marina. This is an excellent marina with nice showers, free laundry, and easy grocery access. So it was a good spot to get re-provisioned and prepared for the Georgian Bay. About the only things that this marina didn’t have were fuel and pumpout, but we were able to stop at Bridgeport Marina and take care of these things before arriving at Port of Orillia.
The main task I needed to accomplish during the down day at Port of Orillia was some engine maintenance. I needed a way to store the old oil since I didn’t know if I could easily find a disposal/recycling facility near the marina. So I walked to an auto parts store and bought a 2 1/2 gallon plastic gas can so I could store the 10 quarts of oil that I was planning to pull out of the engine. Early in the morning I started by replacing the two fuel filters. I put each of these in ziplock bags to store until I could dispose of them properly. I then used my fancy new oil siphon contraption to extract the oil through the dipstick. This was way easier than the last time I did the oil change. I pulled the oil filter and stored it in a ziplock as well. The gas can worked great to store the oil. All in all I spent about two hours doing these tasks, with much of it waiting for the siphoning process to complete.
